I’m Doug Niman, Founder and Chief Maker here at Sandía Custom Woodworks. Welcome to my site. Here, you can learn a little more about me, my shop and the tools and supplies I use.

Why Woodworking and Watermelon?
In February 2019, a fresh start in Tucson took an unexpected turn with a bone marrow cancer diagnosis. Two years of grueling treatment followed, culminating in a cure in January 2021. During this time, the inability to taste made food and drink mere necessities. Watermelon juice became a surprising exception, the only liquid I could enjoy, and it remains a staple.
Returning "home" felt alien, sparking a desire for change through redecorating. This led to an interest in LED lighting and home automation, and a woodworking project idea was born despite my lack of experience. YouTube tutorials became my teachers, and the first cut on a table saw ignited a passion. My garage transformed into Sandía Custom Woodworks, a testament to overcoming adversity and a dream realized.
